Description of the photos in the World War 1 photos of death photo album.
Filename of photograph: German dead identity
I believe that these are German soldiers, because of the WW1 German army type boots they are wearing. They are being identified by what I believe to be British or Commonwealth (Australian or Canadian) troops and a German soldier.
Filename of photograph: dead soldier in tree
I can’t identify the nationality of this soldier at the moment. He was almost certainly killed by a shell which literally blasted his body into the tree. There are several accounts, written by World War 1 veterans, of this occurring.
Filename of photograph: several German dead
Again, I have identified these by the German army WW1 style boots that two of the victims are wearing. I suspect that these were also killed by a shell.
Filename of photograph: French soldier death
These are without any doubt French soldiers, they are wearing the distinctive helmet worn by French infantrymen during WW1. The soldier who has been hit may be an officer rather than an ordinary soldier or enlisted man. He doesn’t seem to be carrying a rifle and he seems to be encouraging the other soldiers to attack.
Filename of photograph: dead soldiers in valley
Again, these are without doubt French soldiers, again because of the French WW1 style helmets which are near their bodies.
To be continued.
The World War 1 photos of death photo gallery will be regularly updated with new photographs and descriptions.
